Donald C Berglund: C-level Executive, Mentor, Consultant, Board member
Donald C. (Don) Berglund served most recently (2018) as the Chief Executive Officer of Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), a $65 million, 425-employee health services organization that is a leading provider of blood products and biomedical services to hospitals in Minnesota, northwestern Wisconsin and Nebraska. IBR is also a national provider of blood products and infectious disease testing to clinics, hospitals, community blood centers, and biomedical companies nationally and internationally. In 2012, Berglund led the founding, with other CEO’s, of the National Blood Collaborative, which grew to be responsible for as much as 10% of the U.S. blood supply. In 2016, Berglund led the organization into a strategic partnership with The New York Blood Center. That new combined enterprise is now the 3rd largest blood services organization in the U.S.
Prior to joining IBR, Berglund served in a number of senior executive leadership roles for multi divisional Hospital and Health Services organizations (Hospital CEO, Multi-Hospital System Executive VP and Sr. VP), including Fairview Health Services in Minnesota and Norton Healthcare, Louisville, Kentucky. Two of the hospitals he led achieved HCIA “Top 100” performance status nationally. He also led financial turnarounds, co-led a first of its type merger of academic and community hospital systems, and pioneered a service line approach to running an integrated health care system. |
Currently on the board of directors of Global Partners in Hope, Berglund also has served on the boards of Innovative Blood Resources, Minnesota’s Medical Alley, Preferred One Health Plan, AABB-(Nationally elected industry Board), Presbyterian Homes and Services (Governance Chair), Blood Centers of America (Vice Chair), America’s Blood Centers, The National Chronic Care Consortium (Chair), The Minneapolis Sports Medicine Center (Chair), The Minneapolis School of Anesthesia (Chair), Crown College (Chair), Grace Church of Eden Prairie (Chair), Behavioral Healthcare Providers (PPO), Fairview Clinics, Red Cross of Louisville, and the Minnesota Hospital Association. He has also served on the Panel of Judges for the Minnesota Quality Award.
Berglund currently serves organizations as a board member and businesses/individuals as an executive coach.
Berglund earned a BS in Business Administration, with distinction, and a Masters Degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Minnesota. He also attended continuing executive education at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
He currently resides in Eden Prairie, MN. with his wife and has four grown children.
